“According to Oregon Recovers, 18% of Oregonians (12 and older) report having an untreated substance abuse disorder. Excessive drinking is the third-leading cause of preventable deaths and disease and the state has among the highest rates of methamphetamine and heroin use in the country…”
Tillamook School District (through a sponsorship by Adventist Health) will be hosting an informational session next Wednesday, Sept. 20th from 6 to 7:30pm in the Tillamook High School auditorium focused on how to talk to children about drugs and drug use, current trends in drug use, and how to spot warning signs. This event is being led by the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. We would like for both parents and the community to attend. Our hope is that you, as community partners, can help us get the word out and/or send representatives from your organization to attend as we recognize that all of you are working with our youth. We will offer an additional parent/community event for those unable to attend the Wednesday evening event on Friday, Sept. 22nd – 8:15am at the Tillamook School District Office.
Please share this link for the event.
Following Wednesday‘s presentation, the presenter will be conducting assemblies with all TSD9 students in grades 6-12 on Sept. 21 & 22, staff will attend a one-hour training on Oct. 12th, and an anonymous survey will be given to all students in grades 6-12 to have a better understanding of our current student population’s needs.
