Tillamook School District issued this statement on February 26, 2025:
Dear TSD9 Parents and Guardians:
It has come to our attention that a dangerous trend is emerging among some of our students. We have recently learned that students are misusing Benadryl by taking excessive amounts to get high. This practice is extremely dangerous and can have severe consequences, including overdose and death.
We are asking for your assistance in monitoring your child’s behavior and personal belongings, such as their backpacks. Through open communication and preventative measures, we hope to reduce the risk of any serious incidents.
If you believe your child may be struggling with substance use or is under the influence of drugs, we encourage you to seek counseling services or medical attention immediately. We are committee to working closely with our parents to ensure a safe and successful future for every TSD9 student.
If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your child’s school administrator.
Matt Ellis, Superintendent
