Tillamook School District released this statement today October 29,2024:
We are writing to provide an update related to the football game last Friday evening, October 25, 2024. We have been in contact wiht the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) and the North Clackamas School District, and are participating in a joint third-party investigation. It is our belief that clear and complete information from both sides will help us move forward toward resolution. We recognize that sportsmanship is a shared responsibility and our goal is to always provide safe spaces for student-athletes to compete and showcase their athletic talents.
Matt Ellis, Superintendent TSD#9
As previously reported, rumors, gossip and misinformation regarding the situation at the Friday night Tillamook High School versus Milwaukie High School football game have been running rampant. Fueled by inaccurate reporting by a variety of media sources, citing quotes and information from only one side. The Tillamook County Pioneer has been investigating this situation and will only report from statements issued from the involved schools and organizations. We will wait patiently to receive information from the third-party investigation. We will not share our “off-the-record” interviews, from bystanders or others that may have been “on the field” and overheard conversations.
The THS football team deserves better from the media. The coaches, players, school and community have been hastily labeled, villified and characterized based upon rumors and heresay. There is always so much more to the story. This is a learning opportunity for everyone. We certainly can do better, but without complete knowledge of ALL the conversations and what happened on that field, we should all reserve any judgement until a thorough investigation is complete.
Let’s show our support for our Cheesemakers – they played a great half of football on Friday night. They have another important game this Friday night against Seaside – let’s cheer them on to the playoffs.
