There are two segments of the jetty that are being repaired; 1) a section of jetty trunk approximately 600 feet long at the root, where the jetty ties into the spit and 2) a section approximately 800 feet long at the seaward (west) end of the jetty, that includes re-establishing a jetty head and repairing jetty trunk adjacent to the head. The repairs on the trunk near the root will be performed first; after that work is completed, the contractor will move to the seaward end to complete those repairs.
The contractor has started placing stone on the jetty root section. The process for that began on approximately July 25 with preparation of the existing root portion of the jetty for receiving new armor stone. New stone placement started on the root portion of the jetty approximately a week ago. Most of the new stone on the ocean (south) side of the root of the jetty has been placed. This week, they’ve started placing stone on the channel (north) side of the root of the jetty. The contractor continues to transport stone by barge from stockpiles at the Port of Garibaldi to the Material Offloading Facility at Kincheloe Point.
