My husband Ole and I have lived in Rockaway Beach for a very long time. We have seen a lot of changes and Mayors over those years. For a while now, I feel like we don’t really know what is going on in the city until after the fact. In talking with Charles McNeilly, he has promised to increase transparency from city government (for example, restarting the regular newsletter that used to go out to all residents). In addition, he is interested in more opportunities for residents to interact with and provide input to the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager on a regular basis, including more public forums.
Another consideration that affects many full-time residents is the proliferation of short-term rentals in the city, Charles has ideas about enhancing the newly passed ordinance in Rockaway Beach to better protect livability for residents.
